New Blog

Because of my work and the number of conferences I speak at each year, I travel quite frequently. In fact in a given year its not unusual for me to visit 20 countries. During my travels I often find interesting, and sometimes humorous things. In this blog, I will post pictures and other figments from my travel.

The power of marketing

I've stayed in a lot of temporary housing. In fact when we first moved to Cyprus we ended up living for over 6 weeks in the most roach infested place I have ever seen. This is quite an amazing feat considering that I once worked for a pest control company. My most recent adventure in temporary housing is not in that league and is not all that bad, but it has some interesting wiring - let me show you how they've wired this place in Istanbul.

We are all used to crazy notiices about thinks like "Do not use while showering" on instructions for hair dryers. But look at this one on a toy.

In Cyprus road signs are not just informational, they are often entertaining. I will post more of them in the future but for today let me share this one from an off roading trip.

Unattended baggage?

Everyone is familiar with the phrase repeated in airports over the speakers "Please report unattended baggage. Do not leave unattended baggage as it will be removed and destroyed". On a recent trip to Rome, I saw this extremely unusually placed unattended bag.

I saw this DVD in a kiosk on my recent and very quick trip to Rome. I am not sure what "Gag" means in Italian, but its quite a funny proposition in English.

Anyone who has ever had to apply for a visa from an Embassy knows how bad staff can be. They are often rude, and uncaring. These traits are often only exceeded by their total incompetence.
