Awesome utility for system info
8/10/2006
Do you work with a lot of computers? Always wondering how much memort it has, what CPU, how much disk spaces is free, what the IP is, etc? Here is a wonderful utility for that. It integrates all this information directly onto your desktop background.
In building my super computer I now have 6 copies of XP, and 2 of Vista. The problem is that when I boot one, they all look alike (They are copies of a single source image). Did I boot the base image? The .NET 3.0 June CTP? The .NET 3.0 July CTP? The Robotics studio one? And so on. In my quest I found a neat utility that is also free called BGInfo. It displays a variety of system stats directly on your desktop.
It runs each time you boot and updates a copy of your wallpaper on the fly. It is also completely customizable, so in my case in big bright letters I added a descriptor. So I always know which demo system I am in. In Vista someone will probably make a utility like this for the sidebar. If so, please make it just as configurable.
