Using the Wiimote with XNA for the XBox 360

7/31/2007

A few months back I bought an Xbox controller to do some XNA presentations. I do not have an XBox, but I think XNA is extremely cool and the XBox controller works just fine on Windows as well. I have another XNA presentation to present soon, but unfortunately I left my XBox controller in another location.

I considered buying another one, but then I would have two Xbox controllers, and still no Xbox. Surely there are Xbox controllers for sale here as we have Xboxes here, but none of the stores nearby had controllers in stock. Then I had a thought, I do own a very unxboxlike Wii. And previously I had integrated the Wiimote into Wiikey and have been using it for other purposes as well.

So my next thought was, can the Wiimote work with the XNA Framework? Surely it could, XNA on Windows can pretty much access any .NET library. So I took a simple XNA game and added in Wiimote support, and sure enough, it works!
