You cannot port block me!
6/8/2009
I cannot believe I waited this long. I've done it and I'm free!!!
I am travelling again and I'm using Wifi provided at a public cafe. But like many places they have port blocked a lot of the ports. Normally this means resorting to web mail, or tunnelling and reconfiguring applications, etc. This time most importantly I needed access for VMWare Server Console.
But recently I blogged about setting up OpenVPN specifically for this purpose. I purposefully used port 80, and TCP. In addition to this, OpenVPN even allows tunneling over an HTTP proxy. Port 80 is almost always open, otherwise what good is the wifi? I've now connected the VPN, and voila! I'm free to access everything I need on the Internet again without restrictions!
